What happens with infected E-mails?
- Virus will be detected and deleted from e-mails or attachments
according to your setting.
- If a quarantine mailbox is in use, the infected content will
be compressed, encrypted and sent to an adminitrator address.
- A warning message will be sent to sender or receiver depending
on the configuration.
- Only desinfected e-mail will be delivered.

Can IKARUS Managed Security Services recognize unknown computer
viruses?
IKARUS Manaegd Security Services use 3 different scan methods:
Pattern scanner, Heuristic scanner and a special heuristic for
scripts. Heuristic mothods also makes it possible to recognize
unknown viruses.
1) The pattern scanner detects computer viruses based on their
characteristic bit structure (appearance). In other words, the
anti-virus programmer first needs a copy of the virus itself
to create an "antidote".
2) Heuristic scanners are programs that simulate a virtual computer
and independently analyze programs. This technique allows heuristic
scanners to detect computer viruses based on their behavior.
This means that even unknown computer viruses are detected!

What happens if a computer virus is detected, but cannot be
deleted?
The e-mail/attachment is in this case deleted. The recipient
and sender are notified of the incident!
The quarantine function will prevent the permanent loss of a mail
content. The infected e-mail will be compressed, encrypted and
sent to a administrator's mail box.

How can I protect myself from High Outbreaks (e.g. Loveletter,
Sobig, Sasser etc.)?
Statistics and online monitoring detect traffic anomalies (irregularities
in e-mail traffic) and notify virus specialists who take the appropriate
